Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

As you age, your facial skin loses subcutaneous fat and produces less collagen, which is responsible for skin’s strength and elasticity. Injectable dermal fillers are a gel-like substance containing Hyaluronic Acid (HA) that safely replaces lost volume, softens wrinkles and folds, and stimulates collagen production.

The result is a more youthful, vital appearance. You’ll see improvement immediately after the treatment that will often improve within the next few days. Dermal filler treatments require little downtime.

Am I a Good Candidate?

You are a good candidate for dermal filler treatments if:

  • Your general health is good.
  • You’d like to improve lost facial volume, deep folds and wrinkles.
  • Your expectations are realistic.

Read the FAQ for contraindications.

Before the Treatment

Tell Dr. Gagliardi about any medical conditions, and medications you are taking. In a consultation with Dr. Gagliardi, you can discuss which areas of your face you’d like to treat. The doctor will ask you questions about your general health and expectations. You’ll be able to ask questions about the treatment, discuss any concerns, and learn what to expect during and after.

During the Treatment

Most patients find dermal filler treatments tolerable. Dr. Gagliardi uses dermal filles that contain a local anaesthetic to increase your comfort during the treatment.

After the Treatment

Avoid laying down, putting pressure on the treated area and heavy exercise the day of treatment. You’ll notice improved volume in minutes, which will improve over a few days.

Dermal Fillers FAQ

Are dermal filler treatments costly?

Because each patient’s needs are different, costs vary. Dr. Gagliardi tailors treatments to your needs and budget, providing the most effective approach for your investment.

Are dermal fillers safe?

In the hands of a trained and experienced aesthetics doctor, dermal fillers are safe. In the meta-analysis (a study of studies) entitled “Effectiveness and safety of hyaluronic acid fillers used to enhance overall lip fullness: A systematic review of clinical studies”, the authors concluded that “Based on the results of the studies included in this systematic review, HA fillers are effective and safe to use. The majority of included subjects were satisfied with the result and their looks.” Risks, which depend on the area being treated, are reviewed during a consultation and considered in your treatment plan.

How do I prepare for the treatment?

Tell Dr. Gagliardi what medications you are taking, especially blood thinners and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve and Motrin.

Are dermal filler injections painful?

You’ll feel a momentary pin prick from the needle. Most patients find the treatments easily tolerated. Dr. Gagliardi uses dermal fillers that contain a local anaesthetic to increase your comfort.

How long does a treatment take?

A typical dermal filler treatment takes 30-minutes to an hour. Much of that time is spent discussing expectations with the actual injection time being quite short.

Will I need more than one appointment?

Because treatments are personalised, tailored to each person’s goals and budget, more than one session may be required.

Are there any contraindications?

You should not have dermal filler treatments if you:
